Our Team

Forging Ahead Through Education and Training

At K Factor, we employ a mandatory training program with the intention of encouraging and empowering individuals to achieve their goals.  On-the-job training,  mentoring, and weekend learning classes, coupled with a library of literature, provide our apprentices and growing technicians with ample resources to earn certifications in all disciplines.

Apprenticeship Program

New employees are first sent to the HASC for safety training and renewal annually.  OSHA 10 & 30 courses are paid for, with bonuses for achieving each level.

The apprenticeship program takes a new hire without experience and gradually educates them to take the technician certification examination.  The apprentices are given a copy of the technician training manual and are expected to read a chapter each month.  They fill out the chapter review and turn it in 100% correct.  After 3 months a review is had with the apprentice and associated technician.  A short exam over the past 3 months literature is taken.  If the exam is 100% correct and the technician agrees, the apprentice is eligible for up to $1 raise.  At the 6 month mark, the apprentice has another review over the past 3 months literature.  If the review is 100% correct and the technician agrees, the apprentice is eligible for up to $1 raise.  From this point the apprentice will have regular 6 month reviews over the literature for that period.  After 2 years of training the apprentice has completed the training manual and restarts the program.  The intent is to review the information they received before they had knowledge and experience.  This often results in greater absorbtion of the material similar to watching a movie the second time and catching things you missed the first time.  Once the book is completed the second time the apprentice has satisfied the bureaus criteria for experience and can now take the technician certification exam.

Technician Training

Technician training is very similar to the apprenticeship program in the 6-month interval.  Technicians start at level 1 and progress to levels 2 and 3 before becoming project managers.  Technician levels 1 & 2 are still learning and training.  They are seeking out new certifications and improving their product.  Continuing education is mandatory with the Balancing Bureaus and K Factor.  These range from Lunch & Learn meetings with clients to showcase TAB procedures to online training modules, webinars, and seminars.  When a technician reaches level 2, they start preparing for the next level of certification.  Test and Balance Engineer for the AABC requires 7 years of field experience, and the Certified Professional for the NEBB also requires 7 years of field experience to qualify for the examination.  These 7 years are crucial for a developing technician to develop "good habits" and ensure a solid foundation to grow from.  The field experience is supported by office reviews and training, along with extracurricular exercises.  Higher-level textbooks are utilized for this training and require a firm grasp of fundamentals before embarking on the project manager role.
